It is definitely a biological happening, I did not choose this for myself. If I had a choice I would choose to be straight most definitely because it is so hard to live a life around religious bigots who only want to judge and condemn you and make you feel bad about your self. I am 44 and just recently i was so hurt by some hardcore catholics who found out I was gay. They bascically cut-off all communication with me and I thought they were freinds. I am so hurt by this. Life would be much easier and less stressful if I was born straight. But God made me this way with a purpose, and although I may be looked down upon by some, it gives me the courage to fight on and to stand tall and be proud of who I am. I know what it is like to be rejected, forsaken and cut-off from others just because I am not like them. Some people could not handle what I have gone through, and I barely did. [...]
I am a Gay Christian and greatly blessed. I am proud of who I am but still it is hard to live in a homophobic America. [...] I am who I am and God created me this way and I have every right to be me and no one should have a right to deny me my freedoms, especially in America."

As a matter of fact, most human characteristics result from a combination of nature, environment and personal history, so that different approaches are available and necessary to understand and explain behaviours. But my question is: what about genetic heterosexuality? It seems evident: animals and human beings are able to make children. That is nature. Is it necessary to have a genetic heterosexual orientation? Not for humans. If you consider real twins, and especially gay male ones, the proportion of their brothers being gay is 50%. Too much or to few? I read a publication in "Pour la science", french release of Scientifc American, in which studies was related and hypotheses discussed, but one. My idea is: gay people, these twins, have not got a natural heterosexuality. So only other factors influenced their behaviour: approximately 10% of the population could have the same genetic combination, and 50% should be gay. Is that idea so indecent? Apparently, nobody had it before and I do not understand why."

The reason I believe this was that whenever I would ask one of my homosexual friends about whether or not they could actually get a women, I never found one say that they weren't attracted to women, but always 'I could never get a women.' Maybe I'v just found all the pessimistic gay guys, but from this, I have come to believe that most gay guys are actually using being gay to escape from the fact they believe themselves that they simply cannot find the right women, or get a women in the first place, and not because they are attracted to men over women, or that they've had bad experiences with women. I also believe that a lot of homosexuals stick to the born gay idea, as not having any control over one's sexuality makes it so much easier for them to accept what society calls wrong. Despite the almost entirely speculative research on gayness at birth, gay guys cling to it adamantley and won't even consider the alternative, as they think of the alternative as an attack on themselves. These are clear sign of denial."

The only reason it is even debatable is because people try to raise themselves above God and come up with their own reasons. Verse 28 says "And even as they did not like to retain God in there knowlege, God gave them over to a reprobate mind,to do those things which are not convenient". Or verse 27,"And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the women, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was met." This life style is also an abomination unto God. No abomination's shall enter Heaven, and all the people trying to make excuses for them and denying the truth are just helping to send their soul to hell for all eternity. What person would consciously choose a lifestyle which must be kept secret. The gay person stands the chance of being disowned and evicted by their parents, losing their job, being constantly ridiculed, and is a prime candidate for a hate crime. So with all this as a given, who would really choose to be gay? People always want to do what is socially acceptable and being gay is surely no one of them.
I ask my straight friends when did you make your choice and they all look at me mystified. I just come right out and ask them when they made this critical decision. The answer is always the same, they didn't make a choice, "that's just the way I am." So when the majority of the population can't ever recall making a sexual orientation decision, why do they feel that gay's do. The fact that gay youth must hide their true identity often leads to extreme depression and suicide still remains the leading cause of death among gay teenagers. The evidence has been in for a long time. Therefore, I can't understand how this nature/nurture issue is still out there."

But here are my personal comments on the matter: homosexuality exists, whether by nurture or nature. Even a staunch conservative Republican who's been raised in strong Christian background like me cannot deny the fact that people are walking around everyday with different sexual orientations. Whether we approve of them or not we must learn to accept people for who they are and stop controlling people's lives. What do I care if homosexuals get married or have intercourse in their own behavioral way, it's none of my business. But persecuting people for sexual orientation seems a bit ridiculous. Legally, I can see how many would not want to allow marriage rights, tax write-offs, etc. to homosexuals but I honestly believe that should not matter. People are people and we must let them live freely in a country founded on equality. Morally I disagree with homosexuals but I tend to lean towards Dick Cheney's point of view. I have sympathy for these lost souls but I would not deny them their god-given rights."

PRO 5/9/06 - "I was born in SW Ontario, Canada in 1956. There was a 'conspiracy of silence' in that no one talked about the possibility of being gay or lesbian. The orientation was not acknowledged. However since age three I felt 'different' and knew I had same-gender attractions. It was very painful to grow up with that secret. The statements I read on this site that say it is a choice to become gay, are totally wrong. I have met hundreds of gay folks and no one made that choice.
It tore me apart inside to grow up feeling one way and not acting on it or talking about it. It is insane to try and change anyone's orientation, what is needed is acceptance of what is. Many religious folk are so full of disinformation and hatred for us that the world can be unkind and frightening. I accept that straight people are who they are and I expect the same back. Straight people just happened to be more common than us.
It is terrible how gay rights in the US are being thwarted by religious hate groups. I hope that there will be an enlightenment some day.

CON 4/14/06 - "I haven't seen any comments regarding Harvard's Edward Wilson's seminal work in Social Biology.
Social biology posits that much of our behavior is genetically selected for the prime purpose of passing genetic code in lieu of an individual attaining immortality. In other words if I'm going to die, at least my genetic code can be passed on.
If this is the case, then how can a same sex coupling pass on genetic code?
As a result, the problem is that while a very few genetically passed same sex individuals have existed through the ages, it is only in societies that are on the decline that those genetic misfits to the mandate to pass on their genetic code are allowed to exist. The reason these few genetically wired same sex are allowed to exist is because over time same sex behavior is accepted.
As a result most same sex activity is a "Learned" or nurtured behavior. Since most males by genetic coding is to make sure that genes are passed on, i.e. in lieu of immortality and since every ejaculation consists of 1,000s of sperm, then promiscuity of males is a wired or genetically driven behavior. Since most males are driven by the response to achieve climax it is irrelevant the sex that helps achieve climax. As a result, with the majority of same sex behavior due to promiscuous motivation, it becomes vital to the non-genetically same sex inclined, to make sure societal acceptance of same sex activities becomes de rigueur.
In summary, same sex behavior is the result of nurtured acceptance of promiscuity driven by achieving sexual release through climax regardless of the receptacle."

I was brought up in a normal Christian family - parents and 3 children - I experienced a happy and open lifestyle and could ask my parents about anything that concerned me. Without it, we have no society, no social issues and no questions to deal with including the issue of Homosexuality. Homosexual 'partners' (male and male or female and female) can NOT naturally reproduce, period. That's not my rule, its the way it is. The majority of people are born with the heterosexual drive; and a small few are born extraordinarily smart, or very tall ,or amazingly beautiful, or with significant athletic superiority, and so on. And while I personally do not 'buy' being born gay, perhaps a small percentage of human beings (and animals) are born homosexual. But so too are a percentage born with various issues and deformities, diseases, birth defects, afflictions, etc. It is nice that we politely call them normal, but we all truly know they are not as we know and understand Normal. Everyone should be understood and accepted for who they are (or who they believe they are), but elevating anyone to a level obviously not normal, natural, decent or moral does not logically follow.
